The Collaborative Economy

One of the Construction Training Centre’s core objectives for the future development of the industry, is to pioneer a new phenomenon known as ‘the collaborative economy’, which is emerging every day throughout the world.

Stemming from the convergence of technology, the internet, environmental concern and a new economic paradigm, the collaboration economy works to make highly efficient use of spare or idling capacity.

But how does this affect the average workplace and what might it mean for registered training organisations?

The Construction Training Centre (CTC) has taken this concept and applied it to the High Risk Work Licensing market with the introduction of  “Hot Leasing“, which harnesses the efficiency of the collaboration economy by assuming the CAPEX and OPEX risks associated with the delivery of an RTO’s training.

Significant capital investment is required to set-up specialist plant and equipment involved in conducting high risk training in the construction industry. For what can be long periods of time when training programmes are not being conducted, this equipment is lying idle and not providing a maximum return on that investment.

With Hot Leasing, RTO’s wanting to deliver short course training in high risk and other licensing courses can now do so, without the burden of requiring a lease and significant capital expenditure on plant such as forklifts and knuckle booms. The Construction Training Centre provides this, and short term or dry hiring the facility to RTOs to enable them to concentrate on what they do best – the delivery of the training.

Hot Leasing is a significant game changer for the industry as it removes two big barriers to entry for RTOs; the need to have a lease and to buy their own capital. Hot Leasing means organisations can pay a fee only when using the space, which is governed by a straightforward licence agreement. RTOs can now build a business without the concern of getting a return on capital from the outset.

The collaborative economy in action!
